Broken appliances can be a headache and a hassle.
When something breaks or isn’t working properly it can throw off your whole day – or your whole week! It’s easy to want to push it off, but appliance fixes should really be done as soon as possible. Getting the problem fixed quickly will typically save you money in the long run.
Consumer Reports released a list of the most common appliance problems that people run into in the kitchen and the laundry room.
Here’s what they found when studying appliances purchased in the last ten years.
Common issues in the kitchen included problems with ice dispensers, refrigerator leaks, dishwashers not cleaning, and microwave buttons not working.
While many of the problems with kitchen appliances are more of an inconvenience, some can be a safety issue. Problems with the microwave door, leaks from your refrigerator or dishwasher, and oven problems should be addressed as soon as possible.
A malfunctioning washer or dryer could get you behind on laundry or even ruin your clothes!
In the laundry room, the washing machine is the more likely culprit for expensive repairs. Consumer Reports recommends fixing anything that sounds like squealing or knocking immediately so the problem doesn’t get worse.
As for the dryer, “There are very few dryer problems that can’t be fixed—it’s rare to have to completely replace the unit.”
