Two common problems with furnaces

It’s winter, and we know you definitely don’t want any heating problems popping up!

However, sometimes furnace issues do happen.

Here are two common problems homeowners can have with their furnace.

1. Gas Leak

Gas leaks are a serious issue and need attention immediately.

If you smell gas you should keep doors open and evacuate right away. Try and turn the gas line off in your home if you can safely do so.

Home Tips said, “When the gas is off,  the valve’s oblong stem points perpendicular to the inlet pipe. Then call your gas utility or the fire department from a remote location. Do not return to your home until you know it is safe.”

2. Thermostat Not Working

Thermostats not making the heat turn on can be extremely frustrating.

Sometimes the problem might not be with the actual furnace.

Family Handyman said, “Before you assume you have a furnace problem, do some furnace troubleshooting and check the thermostat to make sure it’s actually telling the furnace to come on. Thermostats, especially programmable ones, can be complicated, and the more options a thermostat has, the more that can go wrong.”

If you troubleshoot and still can’t get the heat to turn on, it’s probably time to call in the pros.

Remember, regular maintenance can prevent problems with your furnace from happening in the first place!
