Sometimes homes are noisy, especially old homes. There are a few things you can do about those noises, though, so don’t just accept them!
If your fireplace is loud, the fan probably needs a good clean or replacement. You can caulk up any whistling windows yourself to eliminate that noise.
Family Handyman said, “Often a stiff wind will open vent dampers, causing them to periodically clang shut. If the noise drives you crazy, new spring-loaded backdraft dampers ($9 to $30, depending on the size) should solve the problem.”
Finally, clinking ceiling fans just need a plastic tube covering for the chains!
Here’s to a good night’s sleep.
