6 ways to elevate your table setting this holiday season

Yay!! it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Time for decorating the tree, baking grandma’s secret recipes to show off to your friends, and spending time with the ones you love and the ones you…well…tolerate. No matter whom you are entertaining this season, here are six tips to elevate your table setting to wow your guests.

Pops of colour on neutral settings

Just as we saw with fall décor trends this year, holiday-season decorating for 2018 is about adding rich elegance through pops of colour added to neutral background. For holiday decorating you can choose muted tones that accent your neutral theme such as blush rose or take the opposite route and choose a bold colour such as a deep plum that adds richness and acts as the focal point. Either way, these pops of colour are great for your centerpiece, candles, napkins, or place settings.

Floral arrangements

Avoid flowers that are fragrant, so it doesn’t interfere with the smells and flavours of your meal. Get an arrangement that is low rather than high, so your guests can easily converse with one-another. Match your arrangements to your table shape. If it is rectangle, go for a longer arrangement or multiple small ones around the table. If it a square or round table, stick to an arrangement that is round or angular in the center of the table.

Ornaments as table decorations

Give each guest an ornament on their place setting to take home and personalize it with a tag that may have your guest’s name, year, or an inside joke to commemorate the gathering. Use a cluster of ornaments to accent the floral arrangement or to act as the centerpiece itself.

Use bottles as candle holders

You must be thinking “How are bottles glamourous?”. Clear recycled (or new) bottles are a great way to add refinement to your table as it highlights bold candle choices in a subtle way. Choose varying shapes and sizes to add different heights and depth to the table.

Place settings

When is a better time to pull out the fine china and crystal stemware?! Wait…you don’t have fine china and stemware and you don’t have loads of cash to go out and buy some? No problem. It’s more common to stick with everyday place settings when entertaining these days and that’s totally fine. Add charger plates to your settings to give it that extra touch or go as far as finding on is a bold accent colour, like this deep purple charger plate, to give you that pop of colour and added glam. Also, pick up some cloth napkins. Every adult should own them!

Mixing metals

Mixing metals has been a popular trend for interior décor for a few years and we still love it! Mixing a few contrasting metals such as charger plates with metallic candles or cutlery with nap holders and the centerpiece accents is a delicate way to add dimensions and interest to your table without overpowering it.
